... This isn't a commercially rated treadmill, but it is very high end. I've trained for three marathons on this machine; anywhere from 15 to 60 miles per week. My wife and I have put hundreds of miles on this machine and it still runs like new.

The electronics are cool, if you're just interested in some fitness running programs. You can program this machine for speed and incline and time. Basically, you can record a routine and save it. Also, it has several built in routines that are pretty interesting; interval, climbing, fat loss, 5K, 10K, outdoor running simulation.

The rollers are commercial size, making the overall mechanics of the machine very durable.

My only complaint is that the heart monitor that comes with it is one of those types where you can't replace the battery. I bought a third party compatible one that takes a CR3230. It works fine.

It's whisper quiet, and stays that way if you keep it clean.

HealthRider Pro H500i Treadmill

... Never have I been treated so poorly by a company. I spent quite a sum of money on my Healthrider Treadmill, only to have it malfunction straight out of the box. I sat for three hours on hold only to have the tech agent read my manual to me. They then sent me out a new incline motor and outsourced the service work to a company that doesn't answer it's phone calls, set's up appointments, but doesn't show up for them, and apparently lacks the appropriate communication skills that it takes to run a business properly. Which leads me into week two of my treadmill gathering dust, waiting on hold with ICON for another hour after being hung up on by a Customer Care Agent (who I think was trying to put me on hold). This new Customer Care Agent then proceeds to tell me how ICON cannot control who it outsources to, they can't guarantee when someone will be out to look at my machine, and a whole slew of other "I don't know", "But Sir, we can't", comments. How can a company sell a product and then not care if the thing even works when the consumer gets it? I told the CCA that if my machine wasn't functional by this Friday (four days from now, almost three weeks from the purchase of the product) that I will want my money back and someone to come pick up this junk from my home. He tells me that they don't refund peoples money, that refunds go through the store that the item was purchased from. This does not register in my head. How can a company survive when it treats it's customers this way. How can they not take any responsibility for their products. They act like this is someone elses problem and it makes no sense to me.



All in all, my advice to anyone looking at getting a product made by ICON Health and Fitness is go with another company. I'm sorry for the rant, but if this could save just one other person from the headache I currently have then it's worth it. Thanx, John

... Came in 1 large box on two pallets. Unpackaging and assembly took about an hour. A couple of the bolts were loose.

Pros: Strong motor, durable belt gives lots of confidence it will work for a long time, easy to lube, folds up, has wheels for moving short distances. Three in my family have been using lightly for about 10 months. Fan works OK. (Haven't used speakers so no comment there).

Cons: Very heavy (to move to another room or fold up), Sticker on back warns to unplug immediately after use but gives no reason, heart monitor built into handle is too sporatic to be useful (manual actually says to get off belt to use it), included Polar chest strap heart monitor which worked GREAT, but was dead after 2 uses with no opening to replace batteries (replacement of whole strap is expensive), display just says "?" with no explanation in manual that heart monitor wasn't working, display very primitive (as an engineer I've designed better), automatically starts at 0.5mph should start at 2.5mph (paranoidedly slow), belt seems about 5 inches too narrow, if you go to end of belt you feel deck bending and hear odd squeek, bookrest bolts could hold up a house. Built-in programs only last 10 minutes. No way to switch from heart rate mode to manual without turning off and on again. When positioning yourself with respect to where the handles and display console are, your feet will almost clip the front motor plate. ...

LifeSpan Fitness TR1000-TV Folding Treadmill with 7-Inch Flat-Panel LCD TV

... I dreaded two things about this machine when I ordered it.

Having to put it together and the size and performance of the 7" tv screen.

The dread was unecessary.

Pro's: The unit came already assembled and arrived in a fold down position. The only thing I had to do was put in a few holding bolts and attach the unit that held the tv and controls for the machine. The entire unit was up and running in less than 20 minutes.

I hooked up my Direct TV to the unit and the sound and picture quality was excellent. I was very surprised.

The unit is very sturdy and well made

Very quiet operation

The options that are built in include different modes such as distance traveled, calories burned, laps, heart rate etc.

There are tons of pre-set exercise options that can be accessed by the touch of preprogrammed buttons.

You can adjust the speed and incline by very convenient buttons located on each handle

Nice magnetic security feature with a magnetized lock that you can click on to your shirt....if you fall the magnetized lock seperates from the machine and it stops immediately.



Cons:

This unit is VERY heavy...300 lbs. It did help that the unit has built in wheels...but it will take two people to move this unit to where you wish to store it.

The TV is great...but the control counsel it sits on is a prefabricated, molded plastic that cannot be adjusted once installed making the angle of the tv such that the screen appears dark if you are not walking near the front of the unit. So unless you are very tall...you need to move up a to the front of the tread mill belt, walking more closely to the front of the unit instead of the middle to see the screen clearly. The TV should have been on some sort of swivel or pivot. It's a bit annoying but not a deal breaker.

I was fortunate to have the proper cables to connect my Direct TV satelitte to the unit..the unit comes with no connecting cables for TV, VCR , DVD etc.

Overall...it's a great machine for the money. 4 stars instead of 5 due to the tv angle and the weight of the machine. ...

ProForm 400 GL Treadmill

... I bought a treadmill from proform and a month later it broke down. I sent them an e-mail and told them about it. They keep telling me to try this and to try that and one day the E-mails stopped. I called them and said non of this is working could you send somebody out. They said sure for $140. I said no this is covered in the warranty. Turns out since I never actually "asked" them to come out and fix it that it was not included in the warranty and since the 90 days was up they were no longer obligated to fix it. A dirty little trick since I complained of the malfunction while the warranty was still active. Turns out that the e-mails stopped right at the 90 day mark when the warranty expired.

I paid the $140 to have somebody come out. The money was withdrawn from my account withing minutes of the phone call. However, a technician was not sent out until 8 weeks later after I called them several times. One time they tried to charge me again for the repair call. To fix the machine would have cost me more than I paid so it ended up going to salvation army. Even the technician said that proform was a shady company. Not only do they pull this type of thing all the time but they lie about the treadmills. This treadmill advertised that it could handle people up to 250 pounds, yet the repair man told me he would not suggest that any one over 160 pounds use it.

Proform is a terrible company who makes a terrible product and I will never do business with them again. Don't waste you time or your money on this piece of garbage. I cannot stress enough that you should stay clear from these scam artists. ...

Sole S77 Treadmill (2009 Model)

... Overall, this is a great product.

I'm glad I went with one of their larger models. The shorter running deck would have been a disappointment.

They deliver these things through one of those trucking services that just drop the box at the front door, and then you sign for it. (I was fortunate that the delivery guy helped me get it inside, but they are not required to do that. This is important because the box is HEAVY... no way one person could move it inside.)

Set up was very easy... someone has really thought this out.

The build quality for a home system, at this price, is very good. Don't expect a trend mill that you saw at the Four Seasons or the Ritz Carlton.

The speakers are pretty lame, but do the job for Podcasts, and Audiobooks. Music doesn't sound so good, but again, it's tolerable.

After much research, and for the price, I'm glad I ended up with the Sole S77.

Btw, I opted for this vs. a folding treadmill. After all, there's not much need for a folding treadmill. It's not like your space looks BETTER when you fold it up. And if you need to vacuum under it, it's easy to move.

Reebok Vista 9500 Treadmill

... I put a lot of hands on, or rather "feet on" effort into selecting a home treadmill. After running on literally every brand I could find in the local stores, I had no doubt that the Reebok was the one that felt closest to a gym-quality treadmill. I hesitated at the price, however, since it was retailing over $2000 at the time. I managed to get a deal through the military, however, that allowed me to buy for < $1500, delivered, with extended warranty. At that price, it was a bargain. I double-checked with the very gracious folks at treadmilldoctor.com, who said that if I could get that price, "buy it".

That was over a year ago. Now, the price on Amazon has dropped to about what I paid for mine, so I thought a review after some use might be helpful.

Durability:
OK, nobody uses a treadmill as much as they thought they might when they bought it. I am no exception. That said, we have had 5 family members use this for incline walking, jogging, and interval training. It has not had any breakdowns.

Screen:
No problems to date with plugging in a DVD player. We have also just set up a portable near the treadmill, which does give better resolution.

HR monitor:
Actually surprised me by working like it was supposed to. Uses a model that wraps around the chest, however, which I did not find comfortable. If you can count for 10 seconds and multiply by 6, you have your heart rate monitor right there.

Motor:
This is by far the nicest feature. The speed will go up to 12 MPH. I looked everywhere, and this was the only affordable treadmill that would reach this speed. Even many gym models top out at 10 MPH. This is a major plus if you want to do intervals.

Incline:
the incline is as steep as I could find without getting a specialized climbing model. It can be raised high enough that a walk at steep incline at 3-4 MPH is a very vigorous workout.

Stability:
At approximately 190 pounds, I am heavy enough to rattle almost every home treadmill I tried. This is one of the few that did not feel flimsy when I ran on it.

Fan:
A nice thought, if imperfectly executed. It is not really strong enough to feel cool, but it does a bit help prevent overheating. I get pretty sweaty, so even a little fan helps. If nothing else, a breeze in the face helps psychologically.

Safety switch:
You attach this to your clothes at the waist. It you drift too far away, it detaches a connector loosely held in place by a magnet. This stops the motor. The magnet holds tightly enough to not fall off with exercise, but it is not so tight that it would pull off your waist rather than the machine. This put my mind at ease when my kids used the treadmill.

Storage:
You _can_ store it in the up position and save a little space, but be advised that this is not a wall bed. It will still have a big footprint in your room. It is also heavy enough that it is generally not worth the trouble to raise it. We leave ours in the down position.

Installation:
Which brings me to installation. This is a minimum 2-person job to get it in your house. If you can get the delivery man to take it to the room where it will be used, you will be happy. This thing is HEAVY. Also, part of the packaging is used as a brace during assembly. DON'T BREAK THE BOX DOWN UNTIL YOU ARE DONE.

Preset workouts:
These are pre-programmed, and you can also customize. I don't use them personally,but they seem to work as intended.

Overall:
An excellent home treadmill for running, incline training, and intervals. 4 stars at a high price, 5 stars under $1500. ...

... I purchased this item from Amazon because of free shipping and no sales tax. I had hoped to locate it on the second floor but after receiving it I found this impossible to do. Even unassembled the bed of this machine must weigh 200 pounds so I put it in the basement.

The treadmill gives a good workout. Thus far I have used the EZ Cline program at Level 15 and at 3 MPH for 20-25 minutes. This gets my HR up to almost max. There are several programs that keep your HR at a certain percentage automatically by adjusting the incline. I am interested in these but have yet to try them. The life Fitness "Hill" program is also available on the TR5

I would recommend this treadmill because of the number of programs it has as the key to exercise with a machine is varity so you don't get bored and give up. ...

Smooth Fitness 9.35HR Treadmill

... I would like to preface my review by saying that I am in no way paid by Smooth Fitness to write this review, or have any connection or affiliation with the company.

I ordered my treadmill factory direct and it took about 2 weeks for it to come. Then it took me around 4 1/2 hours to put it together. It wasn't the directions that was hard to understand, it was just twisting in the screws and moving the treadmill around that took so long. The treadmill is extremely heavy and I put it together by myself. I do suggest you have a friend or significant other help. But since the treadmill is so heavy, it feels sturdier. After putting my treadmill together, I was excited to start using it.

I'm a 5'5" female and weigh 130 lbs, but the treadmill is a nice size and sturdy enough that I think it can easily accommodate heavier and taller runners. It says in the manual that users can be up to 350 pounds. This is definitely a good treadmill for running. If you're looking for a treadmill just for walking, you can spend around $400-$1000 for a fairly good treadmill. Jogging and running, expect to spend $1000 and up for a quality machine.

I've only went up to 6.o mph so far, but the belt runs very smoothly. There's no odd jerking and sputtering like on cheaper treadmills where you feel like you might be fall off and break a neck. This treadmill truly does feel like a quality treadmill like those found in fitness gyms. Lately I've been too busy to go to the gym so it's super convenient to have a treadmill at home. I love the no fuss aspect. I don't have to "dress up" and can easily shower as soon as my workout is done. For days when I really don't feel like listening to music, I can just pop in a movie and still get a good workout.

Before purchasing the Smooth 9.35HR, I did my research. I read up on customer reviews and reviews made by treadmill "gurus". The treadmill doctor has given this treadmill shining reviews, giving it a #1 spot for treadmills in the $1500-2000 range. In my search for the best treadmill for me, I wanted a quality machine that won't blow my budget, I wanted to be able to run comfortably on it, and most important it had to have good cushioning. A few months back I got a knee injury that now makes it difficult to run on hard surfaces or for long distances. The Smooth has this wonderful Hydra Suspension feature that allows you to adjust the cushioning level. It's easy to change for different users, depending on what you need. It works. I've used the treadmill with it "off" and it hurt my knees within 5 minutes. The next day I turned it "on" and I barely had a problem. The slight pain was most likely from the day before, but with the cushioning on, I did notice a huge difference. It was the Hydra Suspension feature that really made me go for the Smooth. I was deciding between the Sole F85 and the Smooth 9.35 HR. They were both the same price and both had raving reviews, but I chose the Smooth 9.35 HR for it's superior cushioning system. I don't know if you can say it's "whisper-quiet", but I can hear music over the motor. This might help, if you order from the website it's free shipping and free in-room delivery if you want to save a few bucks. With the purchase of my treadmill from the company, I also received 5 years parts and electronics and 2 years labor. Some treadmills only give you 1 year labor.

I give this treadmill a 4 1/2 out of 5 only because the console is in my way. Like I said, I'm 5'5", but the top part of the console comes up to my upper chest and when I'm swinging my arms during walking or jogging, my arms bump in to the console. I just wish the console was lower or could be adjusted to a different height, but no I'm stuck. So if you're tall, this would probably be best for you. If you're short, take that in to consideration. The console height is a bit of a problem, but not enough for me to want to return it. The strong motor and cool Hydra Suspension cushion far outweighs that minor problem.

The treadmill also allows you to input up to 9 user information and save it. Just input your height, weight, etc, one time and you can look up User 1, User 2, and so on the next time. I think this is really cool because the calorie burn reading is more accurate this way and being able to read how much calories I'm burning helps me keep going. There's also different programs, but I haven't tried them yet so I can't give a review about that. In addition, it comes with a Heart Rate chest strap. I use that to help me reach and stay in my Heart Rate zone so I don't work under my potential or over train.

Don't just read a few reviews and decide to buy it. Do your research. There are also sites that are paid by treadmill companies to write wonderful reviews for treadmills so don't believe everything. I haven't had a lot of experience with the Smooth's customer service, but the few times I have called they have been courteous and polite. I am pleased with my purchase and recommend it if you're willing to shell out the $2000. ...

I have no problem with the actual treadmill itself but the "advanced" console is becoming a real issue. I called Life Fitness and had to replace the console. Reason: HR was going on and off and sometimes showing 50 HR a minute while running? I am not that fit to have such a low HR. This can potentially be very dangerous as you will be running and the HR is showing 120 while in fact you are at 170 HR per minute. The service person came, aknowledged the problem and requested a new console which was installed 3 months ago. This one seemed to be more reliable for a while but I have now the same issues as a few months ago. HR going on and off. I am walking at 3.5 miles an hours with an incline of 4 and after while my HR disappears and appers again every few seconds and showing the incorrect HR. So if I touch with my hands the sensors I am seeing the correct HR but I cannot reply on the wireless strap. By the way the batteries in the strap are new. The service person game me 3 straps and they all have the same issue so it must be the console. Since this is happening constantly I cannot use the Cardio exercise program. This treadmill is almost US$ 3000 and the console itself is US$ 700. I believe the console has definitively a design flaw with probably some cheap wireless sensors in it. I hope Life Fitness will finally acknowledge the problem and resolve it once for all. ...
