... I bought this product sight unseen, since there is no Kettler dealer where I live. I was definitely taking a chance, but was relying on the Kettler name and expected a lot at this price.

The bike arrived nicely packaged and went together easily. Very sturdy. The thing I do not understand is the resistance. From the product description, I expected the resistance to be controlled by the computer... but it was not. The resistance is controlled by a mechanical knob, and I could not figure out how to make it work. Other than the resistance, this thing is very solid.

Thankfully, Amazon took it back without putting up a fight... which was a great relief... otherwise I would be gun-shy about buying such an expensive item without knowing exactly what it was.

I get the impression that Kettler products are well engineered and built, which is why I bought this... but unfortunately the resistance mechanism is a fatal flaw on this particular product. ...

It came with all the tools you will need except for a screw driver. It appears that they use standard bike components, so upgrades or repairs shouldn't be a concern. ... I bought this product when it had no reviews. I usually do not do this. I took a chance, and am glad I did. I believe in order to review a product properly, one must rate it based on others in it's category. This bike is relatively cheap compared to other exercise bikes. Rating this bike against one that costs $900 is not very fair. So, when comparing this bike to other "cheapie" bikes, I would have to say I am glad I purchased this one.

It is extremely sturdy, and really makes you work. Exercise bikes that seem to coast when you use them are laughable to me. Isn't the point of an exercise bike to make you... well... exercise? This bike does all that. It works your arms and your legs. I've been using it for about 2 months and it's still holding up. The seat is a little hard to sit on, but if that bothers you, you can always purchase a $20 gel seat at any store that sells fitness equipment.

Also, if you have back problems like I do, you can put the bike flat against the wall and put your back up to the wall when you're exercising. That improves posture and relieves some of the stress on your back.

I am very satisfied with this purchase. One of the better ways to spend part of your tax refund check. ;-) ...

... I received my Vipor on 4/14/09. I had read the "mixed" reviews on the Ironman recumbent bikes. I liked very much the features on the Vipor but I was anxious when the package came to the door wondering if it would be damaged or have missing parts as others have noted.
I was pleasantly surprised. Putting the bike together was fun (my wife and I did it in about 2 hours), and it has performed without any problems. The bike appears to be "well built, has great information readouts, and is very quiet.

... The machine itself is heavy and well built. The magnetic resistance and pedaling is smooth. The resistance level can be adjusted quickly and is more than enough for most people.

Setup is a breeze. The software to monitor your exercises and adjust the bike's settings is light and simple, just what it should be.

It works well with World of Warcraft, first person shooters, and almost any racing game. It works especially well using a wireless game controller and N64 emulator.

The most frustrating part about this bike is that it requires some creativity setting up your game space. You'll need to make some adjustments so that you can pedal at your desk and still have access to your keyboard and mouse. A chair that can both recline and adjust vertically works best.

If you really get into the workout your chair or the bike itself can move around. They include a Velcro strap to tether the bike to the chair, but I found it pretty worthless. Again, it will take some effort to find what works best for you.

If you love to play PC games and need some motivation to workout this is an amazing tool. I have never found working out this fun!

... I use this bike every single day at LA Fitness - sometimes I go to class twice a day. When I first started taking cycling classes, I thought these bikes didn't look like much. But after using them everyday for the past several months, I can tell you without hesitation that they are fantastic.

LA Fitness uses them in all their clubs in Atlanta (and probably around the country), so you know they can take a beating. Since I have been going to class, I've only seen a couple of the 34 bikes at my club experience any issues. According to the staff, they are pretty minor things that come from them being used several hundred times a month each. Put one in your house and use it daily yourself, and I doub;t you will ever have a problem.

Definitely would recommend this. A tough bike and a great workout!

And when I come up with $1350, I'm getting one for home. ...

LifeSpan Fitness S2 Indoor Cycling Bike

... So I bought my spin cycle from Amazon approximately a month ago when it was a gold box special...at that price (about 40% off the 699 price) it is a solid deal.

Pros:

- Very easy assembly...the cycle comes 90% assembled and only took me 20 minutes to put together.

- Pretty solid construction / stable

- Price is great if you get it via gold box

Cons:

- Cheap pedals (plan on buying some SPD pedals and shoes for a much more productive workout) I bought the Shimano PD-M324 SPD Pedal 9/16 w/SH-51 Cleat Silver...which have the advantage of having an SPD side and a normal pedal side. This way someone without the SPD shoes can use the cycle. The pedals come with the cleats so all you'll need is the SPD Shoes.

- You will notice a difference between the feel of this cycle and the ones at your gym (for instance the tension adjustments seem less consistent)...of course gym cycles cost three times as much

- The bike is quiet when seated but makes a cricket noise when pedaling while out of the saddle.

Do yourself a favor and take some time making adjustments to get the bike's fit correct...this will help prevent injuries and make for a much more productive workout. There are plenty of Internet sites that will tell you how to do this.

Also...and this is VERY important...use your first workout to get use to the tension of your cycle. I made the mistake of going all out with the tension unwittingly set way too high and strained my knee a bit.

I also recommend ordering a couple of Spinning DVD's...with spinning to get a good workout you can't just ride...it takes speed work, strength work and interval work...and this is much easier to accomplish if someone is pushing you through it. I also recommend a heart monitor. I use the Polar RS100 It will give you heart rate, calories burned and your elapsed time.

In summary if you can find a high end spin cycle used and in good repair that might be a better way to go...but if you can get this bike on sale it will make you sweat and serve you well.

Kettler Ergoracer GT Indoor Cycling Bike

I got my bike almost two years ago. I did a very extensive market search before I decided to by this bike. I am 40 y.o. 6',4'' 190 lb, I use the bike three to four time a week. The bike is very sturdy, very stabile, very quiet and smooth, very adaptable, simply a pleasure to ride. I pedal about 50% standing-up and about 50% sitting, I get about 1200 cal in 45 min with an average heart rate 140-150 hbpm. For me this is really a great bike, and I am very happy. It is also gives a very similar feeling to a real bike, i.e. on a flat surface, or on a mild incline.

However, I think if I am younger, or if I am a more serious athlete the resistance that this bike offers would not be enough. Except for the first 5-10 warm-up, I do all my spinning at 450-600 watts, what is 80 to 100% max for this bike. I would really like if this bike has about 30% more resistance, something that can mimic like 8 % incline. To increase resistance sometimes I do my biking with a 10-20 lb vest. Unfortunately it can get too hot under such west.

I also miss a display that would show how my average heart rate varies with time.

I give this bike 5 stars, since it gives me almost everything I want and I enjoy it, however for professional athletes this might not be enough. Alternative option is vision-fitness bike that costs about 30% more.

PS. I do not know how difficult is to assemble this thing since my was assembled in a shop where I got it.
